Our Chevy Back-to-School Challenge pits four Duval County Public Schools near Chevy Dealerships in Jacksonville, Florida, against each other to compete for $2,000 towards programs such as art, music, library/technology, P.E. and character education.
You’re invited to “Drive Your Vote” by voting for your favorite school. To help you choose, each school has told us in 150 words or less how they would use the money to improve their schools and help students thrive.
Voting ends on Monday, August 29th at 5:00 p.m. Feel free to spread the word online (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and with any groups or organizations in which you may be affiliated (service clubs, church, athletics, businesses, etc). The winning school will be announced Tuesday, August 30th.
PLEASE BE SURE TO SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE SCHOOL!
Hendricks Avenue Elementary near Jerry Hamm Chevrolet
To promote school-wide literacy, Hendricks Avenue Elementary is involving students, families, teachers, and the community in developing a life-long love of reading. In order to accomplish this goal, our learning community would use the $2,000 award to establish school-wide and family book clubs with a culminating celebration of the reading achievements made during the year.
Books will be purchased for the clubs that will include a variety of interests, genres, and levels. After reading the books, the children, parents, and teachers will meet before or after school or during the evening to discuss and reflect upon their reading. At the end of the year, the entire learning community will celebrate the success of students for achieving their individualized reading goals. The $2,000 will also support the expenses for this special day! Please vote for Hendricks Avenue Elementary and help spread the love of reading throughout our learning community!
Hyde Park Elementary School near Nimnicht Chevrolet
Hyde Park Elementary’s vision statement is to provide a nurturing environment that fosters a love of learning. As a part of providing a nurturing environment, we are continuously planting seeds for every student to grow in Reading, Writing, Math, and Science. Hyde Park’s Media Center is where students, staff and parents have access to a variety of resources. Our media center is at the center of where a student’s thinking, imagination, discovery and creativity begins to bloom. We would like to purchase library books and resources for the media center to continue to foster this growth.
Thank you to all our community, faculty, staff, parents and students for your continued support of Hyde Park Elementary. We look forward to winning the challenge put forth by Chevrolet!
Lone Star Elementary School near George Moore Chevrolet
Lone Star Elementary (LSE) should be awarded the $2,000 prize because we would be very strategic in how we would use the funds to support many fine art departments in our building. LSE is unique because we are a mathematics/science/technology magnet and some of the funds would be used to purchase more SMARTBoards in classrooms. We would also use it for our physical education department to support a program to fight childhood obesity. To further promote music education, additional instruments would be purchased. In addition, more art supplies would be purchased. It is important to tap into every student’s learning style and maximize their learning potential. Our media center always needs funding for current magazine subscriptions, new texts and educational videos. We would invite guest authors using the awarded funds as another great resource. These funds would be used wisely and to promote learning for all students.
Mandarin Oaks Elementary School near Coggin Chevrolet
Mandarin Oaks Elementary School has been an “A” school for the past 10 years. Part of our success has depended upon our faculty and students being on the cutting edge utilizing technology. Teachers at MOE have taken training seminars on how to integrate the use of technology into instruction in order to enhance the curriculum. The cost of the interactive technology is prohibitive particularly due to the recent budget cuts, so we have had to discover new and innovative funding to provide these items. We would use this $2, 000 to purchase students interactive tablets and response systems to monitor classroom learning. These would be used for formal and/or informal assessments and provide students with immediate feedback from their teachers about their academic progress.
We are asking our families now more than ever for their support. Please show your support and vote for MOE!
