May 7-11 was Teacher Appreciation Week! In order to celebrate it along with a special group of teachers in South Florida, Chevrolet provided them with the opportunity to learn more about social media during the #ChevyThanksTeachers event which took place on Friday, May 11 from 5:00pm – 10:00pm.
At the event, teachers from the Broward area learned about how to effectively use social media, specifically Twitter, as a tool for teaching and learning in the classroom. The Twitter session was conducted by a local couple, composed of Sara and Toby Srebnik. Sara Srebnik (@Sleeeping), a fourth grade teacher at Heron Heights Elementary and her husband Toby (@Fsutoby) are social media enthusiasts and Sara was even recognized in the Broward County Schools Newsletter last year for live tweeting her field trips to Kennedy Space Center and St. Augustine.
The group met at Ed Morse Sawgrass Auto Mall and once there, Sara and Toby took the spotlight and conducted the social media session. The top three topics covered at the event included: how to use Twitter, how to live tweet field trips and school events and how to use Twitter to keep up with the latest news on education.
After the session, everyone jumped into one of five Chevy vehicles to our first stop, Sawgrass Recreation Park were teachers enjoyed a private nighttime airboat ride tour. Lastly, the group arrived at Japan Inn, a local’s favorite, where teachers enjoyed a feast of Tepanyaki.

To promote social media conversations throughout the event, we encouraged participants to tweet using the hashtag #ChevyThanksTeachers and to our surprised the group embraced the use of Twitter and shared numerous photos and insights about the event.
Thank you to all teachers for participating! We truly appreciate everything that you do!
Until next time!
