Chevy Go for the Gold Challenge

August 28, 2012 2:16 pm CT

As the 2012 Summer Olympics wrapped up in mid-August, four teams in Tampa went head-to-head in a series of Olympic-style events in the Chevy Go for the Gold Challenge. Participants from around the Tampa Bay area competed in soccer, beach volleyball and rhythmic gymnastics on Sunday, August 12. The prize? A week long test drive, courtesy of General Motors. The competing teams – T.A.M.P.A., Augustina’s Rule, Tampa Bay Lady Bloggers and FitLife Foods – competed like Olympic champions!

The event kicked off with double soccer games at Cinco Soccer. Teams played a 12-minute soccer game and were awarded points based on the number of goals scored. Muchas gracias, Cinco Soccer!

To reenergize before the next event, FitLife Foods  served up a healthy and delicious lunch. From orange chicken wraps to organic cookies, everyone enjoyed a fit meal. Thank you, FitLife Foods! After lunch, the teams headed to their next destination.

We gave the teams sealed envelopes, each containing the secret location of the next event. They piled into the Chevy Equinox, Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Malibu Eco, Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse.

The next stop: Bogie’s Beach Bar for some beach volleyball. After a heavy downpour of rain, Teams played to reach a winning score of 21. Points were given to each team based on how many points each team scored during the game. Nice rings, everyone!

Chevy Go for the Gold participants were just as active on social media as they were in the games.  Team members uploaded photos to Facebook and tweeted up a storm on Twitter using hashtag #ChevyGoForTheGold.

Our final destination was at STAR Gymnastics. Teams prepared a one-minute rhythmic gymnastics routine and were judged on creativity, team work and time requirement.

The challenge concluded with an awards ceremony. Our judges awarded five Starbucks gift cards for most supportive player, best social media use, best picture, most “driven” and outstanding performance. Team FitLife Foods received water bottles for being most team oriented. At the end of it all, team Augustina’s Rule came out on top with a gold win, receiving medals and a gift basket.

Everyone had a blast! Take a look at our video from the event:
